A 25-year-old man, Basiru Shuaibu, has died from severe burns after his younger brother allegedly poured petrol into his room and set it ablaze in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on September 29, 2026, at Nassarawa village, according to the Jigawa State Police Command.

Police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Adam, said the suspect, Abbas Ibrahim, 27, allegedly entered his elder brother’s residence and set fire to the room while Basiru and his wife were inside.

The couple sustained serious burns and were taken by relatives to a traditional medicine practitioner for treatment.

Basiru later died from the injuries sustained in the fire.

Police operatives subsequently arrested Ibrahim in Sara town, Gwaram LGA, and transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Dutse, for further investigation.

The police said the suspect had been arraigned in court.

In a separate incident in Dutse LGA, a 25-year-old man, Muhammad Abba, was allegedly stabbed to death during a dispute over an outstanding N500 payment for a mobile phone.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on October 1, 2026, at Chamo village.

Police said Abba had bought the phone from the suspect, Lawisi Safiyanu, 20, for N1,500 but paid N1,000 and could not immediately settle the remaining N500.

An argument reportedly followed, during which Safiyanu allegedly used a knife to stab Abba.

The victim was rushed to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital, Dutse, where he died while receiving treatment.

Police arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.

The command said investigation into the case had been completed and the suspect charged to court.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijjani Murtala, urged residents to avoid violence and report threats, suspicious activities and disputes to the police or other security agencies.
