A group of people suspected to be supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were seen in a viral video washing a road in Kumo, headquarters of Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Isa Ali Pantami, allegedly plied the road on his way to Kaltungo.

The incident happened barely two days after Pantami emerged winner of the fresh governorship primary of the PDP in the state.

In the video circulating on social media, some youths were seen with buckets of water and brooms, washing and sweeping the road while chanting that they were cleansing the road used by the PDP candidate.

The action has generated mixed reactions online, with PDP supporters describing it as political intolerance, while APC loyalists hailed it as symbolic rejection of the opposition.

Meanwhile, the controversy trailing the PDP fresh primary is yet to abate. One of the aspirants, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, who came second in the election, has rejected the outcome, insisting that Pantami was not eligible to contest.

Mailantarki argued that Pantami’s participation violates the recent Supreme Court judgment on party membership, which holds that persons who joined any political party after May 10, 2026, when the register of party members was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), cannot vote or be voted for in that party for the 2027 elections.

He warned that fielding Pantami could expose the PDP to disqualification by INEC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The fresh primary was held on Tuesday, September 29, following a Federal High Court judgment on September 24 which nullified the earlier primary that produced Pantami and ordered a fresh primary within 30 days.

Reacting via his Facebook page, Pantami described what happened on his way from Kaltungo as an evil plan.

“We heard about your evil plan at Mile 3 on our way back to Gombe Town from paying condolences in Kaltungo, Billiri and Shongom.

“Our message to you is very clear. Allah says: ‘They plot and Allah plans, and Allah is the Best of Planners.’ (Qur’an 8:30)”, he said.
