Coastal road crash claims 1, other Injured in Lagos

One person was killed while three others sustained serious injuries when a Lexus Jeep 350 crashed along the Coastal Road, inward Eko Hotel, Lagos, in the early hours of Friday.
The fatal crash involved a grey Lexus Jeep with registration number LSD 554 KV, which reportedly lost control, rammed violently into a roadside pole and overturned.
According to preliminary security information, the impact left three occupants critically injured, while another victim died in the crash.
Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who were monitoring traffic along the Coastal Road axis, immediately mobilised to the scene, secured the affected portion of the road and facilitated emergency rescue operations.
The injured victims were reportedly extricated from the mangled vehicle with the assistance of Good Samaritans and rushed to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for urgent medical attention.
Security personnel from Victoria Island also provided reinforcement as emergency responders worked to stabilise the scene.
LASTMA officials subsequently removed the wrecked vehicle from the carriageway to prevent a secondary crash and restore the free flow of traffic along the busy axis.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased while cautioning motorists against excessive speed and reckless driving.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise greater vigilance, maintain reasonable speed and comply strictly with traffic regulations, warning that excessive speed and loss of vehicular control could result in devastating and irreversible consequences.
He also appealed to members of the public to promptly report road crashes, vehicle breakdowns, obstructions and other emergencies to LASTMA through its toll-free short code 3367 for immediate intervention.
The incident was subsequently brought under control as relevant emergency and security agencies commenced necessary rescue, investigative and safety procedures.
