New Speaker Yekini Idaiye announced during Tuesday’s plenary that Agbebaku was removed over alleged financial misconduct and poor leadership.
He accused the former Speaker of inflating the prices of Lexus 570 and Toyota Hilux vehicles purchased for lawmakers.
The investigative committee, chaired by Iyamu Bright (Orhionmwon II) with Clerk Alhaji Yahaya Omogbai as secretary, includes Donald Okogbe (Akoko-Edo II), Uzamere Andrew (Ovia North-East II), Ugabi Kingsley (Etsako East), and Maria Edeko (Esan North-East II).
The panel has two weeks to submit its findings.Idaiye also dissolved all standing committees of the House and directed Agbebaku, former Majority Leader Jonathan Ibhamawu, Deputy Majority Leader Addeh Emankhu Isibor, and the ex-Speaker’s Chief of Staff to immediately return all official vehicles and government property to the Clerk.
“In view of the change of leadership, I appeal to the former Speaker and his team to hand over all government assets, especially vehicles, without delay,” Idaiye stated.
