Police, university collaborate on security, community engagement

The Kano Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and the Vice Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano (KHAIRUN), Professor Abdurrashid Garba, are exploring ways for collaboration between the two sectors on security, community engagement and human capital development.

The two discussed extensively during a meeting at the Bompai Police Command in Kano, when the Vice Chancellor paid a courtesy call on the CP.

They agreed to strengthen joint security arrangements for the University community through regular patrols and intelligence collaboration, establish avenues for capacity building by encouraging police personnel to enroll in KHAIRUN’s academic programs.

They are to sustain public enlightenment initiatives on crime prevention, drug abuse, cybercrime, and respect for the rule of law within and around the University.

Welcoming the delegation, CP Bakori expressed appreciation for the visit and described it as timely and strategic.

“The visit was aimed at consolidating the existing cordial relationship between the University and the Nigeria Police Force, and at exploring new areas of collaboration in security, community engagement, and human capital development” he explained.

In his remarks, Professor Garba commended the Commissioner for his visionary leadership and the Command’s unwavering commitment to the maintenance of law and order across the state.

He noted that the support of the police has been critical to the safe and smooth running of the University’s operations.

“The police have been giving us the support we need, and we sincerely value this partnership,” the Vice Chancellor stated.

Professor Garba further reaffirmed the University’s commitment to upholding the vision and legacy of its founding father, the late Sheikh Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu (RA).

He disclosed that by the grace of Allah, KHAIRUN is expected to graduate its pioneer set of students by this time next year, and expressed optimism that the partnership with the Police Command will continue to grow in scope and impact.

As part of efforts to strengthen institutional ties, the Vice Chancellor extended invitation to officers and men of the Command to take advantage of the academic and professional development programs offered by the University.

“We look forward to seeing officers of the Kano State Police Command take advantage of this opportunity to broaden their educational horizons and further enhance their professional development,” he added.

In his response, CP Bakori commended the Vice Chancellor and his delegation for the gesture.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Sheikh Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu and lauded the University for sustaining his ideals in education and moral development.

The Commissioner observed that the erosion of Islamic and moral values remains one of the significant challenges confronting contemporary society, noting that the decline in such values has contributed substantially to social vices and moral decadence.

He emphasised the importance of continuous learning, self-development, and professionalism in modern policing.

He disclosed that he personally makes deliberate efforts to utilize every available opportunity to acquire additional knowledge.

Accordingly, CP Bakori encouraged officers and personnel of the Kano State Police Command to key into the educational opportunities provided by KHAIRUN, describing the institution as being strategically located and accessible to personnel within the Command.

The Commissioner assured the University management of the Command’s continued support and prompt response to security needs. He directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers within the University’s area of responsibility to maintain close liaison with the University’s security unit for effective intelligence sharing and crime prevention.

He further reaffirmed the Command’s alignment with the community-oriented policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
