CENAD endorses Tinubu’s re-election, unveils preferred governorships, other candidates

The national leadership of the Centre for Northern Awareness and Development (CENAD) has officially unveiled its list of the most preferred presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial and House of Representatives candidates across Northern Nigeria.

CENAD, a regional, non-religious, non-ethnic and pro-development organization committed to promoting unity, peace and harmonious coexistence among Nigerians.

The announcement followed the outcome of a research exercise conducted throughout the region and coincided with the flag-off of the establishment and registration of multipurpose cooperative societies in the 4,611 wards across Northern Nigeria.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of CENAD, Comrade Ismaila Aruwa, outlined the objectives of the initiative.

According to him, the exercise was designed to bring to the awareness of Nigerians, particularly those in the Northern region, the outcome of a research conducted across the 419 Local Government Areas in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The research aimed at identifying the most preferred presidential candidate as well as the most preferred gubernatorial, senatorial and House of Representatives candidates across Northern Nigeria.

Aruwa also announced the formal commencement of the establishment and registration of multipurpose cooperative societies in all 4,611 wards in Northern Nigeria. He explained that the initiative is intended to promote economic prosperity and empower communities by providing cooperative societies with access to grants and loans from both governmental and non-governmental funding organizations, locally and internationally.

He disclosed that CENAD has already facilitated the registration of two multipurpose cooperative societies in Kogi and Taraba states as pilot schemes.

Furthermore, Aruwa announced that President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emerged as the most preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election based on the outcome of the research conducted by the organization.

He revealed that a full-page advertorial containing the list of the most preferred presidential candidate, 18 gubernatorial candidates, 58 senatorial candidates and 191 House of Representatives candidates across Northern Nigeria would soon be published.

According to him, the endorsements were not based on political party affiliations but on several factors considered by respondents during the research process. He noted that the responsibility of CENAD is to amplify, promote and publicize the endorsements made by citizens and constituents across the region.

Among the reasons cited for President Tinubu’s preference were his support for local government autonomy and ongoing investments in critical infrastructure projects in Northern Nigeria. These include the ongoing rail line construction projects, the 1,068-kilometre Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway originally conceptualized during the Second Republic, the construction of the Buruku Bridge across the River Benue, the Ibi Bridge linking the North-Central and North-East zones, and the flag-off of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Numan–Yola Expressway, among other projects.

Aruwa further highlighted the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, the creation of the North-Central Development Commission and the North-West Development Commission, as well as the establishment of new military divisions in Makurdi, Ilorin and Jalingo.

Other initiatives listed included the establishment of the National Credit Guarantee Company Limited and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

He stated that CENAD intends to leverage its membership presence across the approximately 97,000 polling units in Northern Nigeria to mobilize a conservative estimate of five million votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 election. The organization also plans to extend similar support to other endorsed candidates.

Aruwa added that the national leadership of CENAD would embark on visits to the 19 Northern states and the FCT to decorate award recipients and present them with Certificates of Final Endorsement.
