Breaking: Trump bans CNN, other major media houses

United States President Donald Trump has announced an immediate ban on three major American news organisations, CNN, MSNOW and Politico, from the White House, accusing them of publishing “fiction and lies” about his administration.

Trump made the announcement on Friday in a post on his Truth Social platform, declaring that the ban would take effect immediately and warning that other media organisations could also face similar action.

“I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW … and Politico from the White House as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!” Trump wrote.

The president also accused the outlets of repeatedly publishing or broadcasting information he considers false about his administration, himself and the United States government.

“Media outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America,” Trump said.

“Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Ban announced without details

Trump’s announcement did not immediately provide details on how the White House intends to enforce the reported ban or what specific restrictions would apply to the three organisations.

It was not immediately clear whether the action would involve revoking press credentials, excluding journalists working for the affected organisations from White House briefings, restricting their access to presidential events or removing them from the White House press pool.

The White House was also yet to issue additional guidance explaining the scope of the directive or the specific reports that prompted the president to take the action.

The absence of further details leaves questions over whether the organisations would be completely barred from the White House complex or whether the restrictions would apply only to certain forms of access.

Fresh escalation in media row

The move represents another development in Trump’s long-running confrontation with sections of the American news media.

Throughout his political career, Trump has frequently criticised news organisations over reports he considers inaccurate or unfair. He has also regularly used the term “fake news” to describe media coverage critical of him or his administration.

His relationship with major news organisations has remained contentious since his first presidential campaign, with disputes often centred on reporting about his policies, statements and conduct in office.

The latest announcement comes amid broader legal and political disputes involving the Trump administration and major US media organisations over access, broadcasting regulations and press freedoms.

CNN, MSNOW and Politico had not issued official responses as of the time of filing this report.
