Bandits abduct traditional ruler in Kano community

Armed bandits have abducted the traditional ruler of the Aujarawar Alkali community in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The monarch, Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, popularly known as Ruwata, was reportedly kidnapped during a late-night attack on the community on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The attackers, who were said to be armed with sophisticated weapons, reportedly invaded the village and whisked the traditional ruler away to an unknown destination.

Mahi Isma’il, spokesperson to the Zannan Kano and the District Head of Jogana, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday.

Isma’il described the abduction as a tragic development and a major blow to the peace and security of the area.

The statement said the incident had heightened fear among residents, while families and community leaders expressed concern over the safety and whereabouts of the abducted village head.

Reacting to the development, the District Head of Jogana, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ma’aji, appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the monarch and strengthen security in vulnerable rural communities.

“We appeal to security operatives to strengthen the protection of lives and property and do everything possible to ensure the safe return of our village head,” Ma’aji said.

He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, while supporting security agencies through vigilance and cooperation.

Ma’aji also called on members of the public to pray for the safe release of Ahmad, expressing hope that the abducted traditional ruler would soon reunite with his family and the people of Aujarawar Alkali.
