APC sweeps 2026 Enugu LG elections

All the 17 chairmanship candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Saturday local government election in Enugu were returned as winners.

The APC candidates defeated their opponents with wide margins that in some local governments, the opposition party candidates could not secure even a vote.

For instance, the incoming chairman and the incumbent, Barrister Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze of Igbo-Eze South, garnered all the votes cast like his Igbo-Eze North counterpart, Dr. Onyebuchi, who secured the whole 137,751 votes cast.

Declaring the results on Sunday, Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, (ENSIEC), Prof. Chris Chidubem Ngwu, said the election was free and fair and was conducted according to the rules guiding the commission.

Immediately after announcing the results of the election and the winners, they were immediately issued with certificate of returns.

Though the councillorship election results were not public, following the outcome of the previous council polls, APC candidates are likely to win their wards as well.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the Enugu South Chairman, Caleb Ani, said that Governor Peter Mbah’s good works in the state made it possible for the APC candidates to win, and urged the electorate to vote the governor to continue with his good works.

“Gov. Peter Mbah has performed very well in every ramifications.  His good works as well as what we did in our respective council helped the APC candidates to win landslide.  I urge our people to vote for Gov. Mbah in 2027 to continue with the good works he has started,” he urged.
