Anambra set to receive First Lady Oluremi Tinubu September 10 2026

Anambra state is set to receive Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday September 10, 2026, as she undertakes an official visit to the state with a number of empowerment and food security initiatives lined up for beneficiaries.

The visit will mark the First Lady’s first official visit to Anambra since her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assumed office in 2023. Blueprint reports

During the visit, Mrs Tinubu is expected to oversee the empowerment of 5,000 residents under the Progressives United Against Poverty Initiative, as well as launch the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East geopolitical zone.

She is also expected to visit the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, where she will commission selected projects as part of her itinerary.

5,000 residents to benefit from empowerment scheme

A major component of the visit will be the empowerment programme targeted at 5,000 beneficiaries across Anambra State.

The initiative, known as the Progressives United Against Poverty Initiative, is being implemented in partnership with the Anambra State Government in support of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Support Scheme championed by the First Lady.

The programme is designed to provide beneficiaries with economic support that can enable them to improve their livelihoods and become more productive.

The intervention is expected to focus particularly on individuals and households requiring assistance to strengthen their economic activities and improve their standard of living.

First Lady to launch South-East food bank programme

Another major highlight of the visit will be the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East geopolitical zone.

The programme, under the Renewed Hope Initiative, is aimed at strengthening food security and providing support to vulnerable households.

The food bank initiative is expected to complement other interventions targeted at addressing food insecurity, hunger and nutrition challenges among vulnerable Nigerians.

Anambra will therefore serve as the launch point for the programme in the South-East, with the initiative expected to subsequently provide a structured support mechanism for vulnerable communities within the region.

Projects to be commissioned at Federal Polytechnic Oko

As part of her activities in the state, the First Lady will also proceed to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, where she is expected to commission key projects.

The visit to the institution will form part of the broader engagement scheduled for the First Lady during her stay in Anambra.

The projects are expected to add to the institution’s infrastructure and support its capacity to provide a more conducive environment for teaching, learning and other academic activities.

Visit to strengthen FG-Anambra partnership

The First Lady’s visit is also expected to further strengthen cooperation between the Federal Government and Anambra State in areas including poverty reduction, economic empowerment, food security and improved livelihoods.

The visit comes against the backdrop of President Tinubu’s previous engagement with the state, during which he described the relationship between the Federal Government and Anambra as one founded on partnership and shared prosperity.

The President also commended the development efforts of the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo during his last state visit to Anambra.

The latest visit by the First Lady is expected to build on that relationship by bringing some of the Federal Government’s social and economic interventions directly to residents of the state.

Anambra prepares for landmark visit
