ZASCOSA seeks Plateau government’s support to revive Zang Secondary Commercial School

The leadership of the Zang Secondary Commercial School Old Students Association (ZASCOSA) has appealed to the Plateau State Government for support towards the rehabilitation and repositioning of the school.

The appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the association’s leadership to the Plateau State Ministry of Education, where they met with officials of the ministry as part of efforts to mobilise support for the development of their alma mater. Blueprint reports

The delegation, led by the ZASCOSA President, Mr Dūng Nehemiah Rwang, held discussions with the ministry on the condition of the school and the need for urgent intervention to preserve the institution and restore it to its former glory.

ZASCOSA seeks ministry intervention

During the meeting, Rwang solicited the support of the Plateau State Ministry of Education in addressing the challenges facing Zang Secondary Commercial School.

He stressed the importance of protecting the legacy of the institution and ensuring that the school continues to serve present and future generations of students.

The ZASCOSA leadership expressed concern over the condition of the school and called for collaboration between the old students, government and other stakeholders to prevent further deterioration of the institution.

The association believes that a coordinated intervention would help restore critical infrastructure and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Commissioner pledges support

The Commissioner for Education, who was represented during the meeting by the Director of Schools, Mrs Keithline Rahab Nyango, assured the ZASCOSA delegation of the ministry’s willingness to support positive initiatives aimed at improving the condition of the school.

Nyango said the commissioner would be properly briefed on the issues raised by the old students and the requests presented during the visit upon her return.

She also encouraged ZASCOSA members not to relent in their efforts to rescue the institution from further deterioration, stressing the importance of the alumni association’s continued commitment to the development of its former school.

According to her, the ministry would be prepared to key into initiatives capable of producing positive developments for the school.

Alumni urged to sustain efforts

The representative of the commissioner urged the old students to continue working together and exploring avenues through which the challenges confronting the school could be addressed.

She acknowledged the role alumni associations can play in supporting educational institutions, particularly through advocacy, partnerships and mobilisation of resources for infrastructure and other areas of need.

The meeting therefore provided an opportunity for ZASCOSA to formally draw the attention of the state education authorities to the situation at the school and seek government collaboration.

The association’s leadership is expected to continue engaging relevant stakeholders as part of its efforts to mobilise wider support for the institution.

ZASCOSA leadership meets old boy

On their way back from the ministry, members of the ZASCOSA delegation also encountered an old student of Zang Secondary Commercial School, Mr Victor G. Bot, who is currently the Deputy Director of the Scholarship Board.

Bot received the delegation at his office and interacted with members of the association.

The encounter provided another opportunity for the old students to strengthen their network and share their concerns about the development of their alma mater.

The association also used the occasion to reinforce the importance of former students contributing to the preservation and development of the institution.

Call for collective action

The latest engagement forms part of ZASCOSA’s ongoing efforts to reach out to government officials and other stakeholders over the development of Zang Secondary Commercial School.

The association has continued to emphasise the need for collective action to preserve the school and improve its facilities for the benefit of current and future students.

With the Plateau state Ministry of Education expressing its willingness to consider the concerns raised, ZASCOSA is expected to sustain its engagements with relevant authorities while exploring other avenues of support.
