AMAC chair meets FCT women, canvasses votes for Tinubu, Aduda

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has urged women in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to vote President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Philip Aduda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to enjoy dividends of democracy.

Speaking Wednesday in Abuja at the AMAC Women Stakeholders’ Strategic Town Hall Meeting themed, “Beyond Conversation: AMAC Women as Catalysts for Peace, Unity, Governance and Development Ahead of 2027,” Maikalangu reassured his administration’s unalloyed support, promising multi-million naira financial interventions for organised women cooperatives.

Addressing the grassroot delegates, Maikalangu urged women across the council to form registered cooperative societies of up to 50 members to easily access municipal funding.

He disclosed that his administration was prepared to disburse grants ranging between ₦20 million and ₦40 million directly to registered women’s groups to boost local trade and entrepreneurship.

In his goodwill message, former Minority Leader of the Senate,  Philip Aduda, pledged tested experience and inclusive legislative platform for women.

Represented by Director, Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, Aduda highlighted the indispensability of women to sustainable peace and national growth.

Senator Aduda pledged that his bid to return to the Senate in 2027 would focus on economic boosts: affordable financing, targeted support for cooperatives, and backing for women-owned enterprises.

Also speaking at the event, key women leaders and advocates emphasised a shift from political rhetoric to actionable development:

Special Assistant to AMAC Chairman on Women Affairs & convener of the meeting, Loveth Isekor, challenged women to stop expecting automatic backing solely on gender lines without demonstrating leadership merit.

She unveiled the LADDER Initiative in collaboration with Live NGO, designed to drive capacity building and digital inclusion to grassroot women.

Also speaking, the Executive Director, Gender Strategy Advancement and founder of WEWE Network Afrique, Dr. Adaora Onyechere Sydney-Jack, delivered a keynote address on mobilizing sustainable development; the role of women in driving socio-economic transformation and inclusive growth.
