A good governance advocacy group, Democracy Today, has commended the campaign strategy of Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

Yari was appointed Director-General of the council for the 2027 presidential election after the APC constituted its campaign structure in August.

In a statement by its Director of Public Engagement, Zander Imaseun, the group said Yari had brought maturity, focus and a sense of purpose to the APC campaign, while avoiding what it described as unnecessary political confrontation.

The group said Yari had maintained a balanced approach since his appointment, insisting that his leadership style was helping to keep the campaign structure coordinated.

“Yari is mature and he has a clear sense of purpose. These are qualities that have made it possible for him to stay focused with his eyes clearly on the ball,” the statement said.

According to Democracy Today, the former Zamfara governor had avoided “throwing his weight about” and instead concentrated on coordinating the campaign machinery.

“As an administrator par excellence, Yari is revving up the engine of the campaigns without constituting himself into a behemoth,” it said.

The group said such an approach would help prevent conflicting lines of authority and ensure that campaign officials operated within their assigned responsibilities.

It also commended Yari for what it described as a “decent disposition”, saying his approach could contribute to a less confrontational political atmosphere.

Democracy Today urged campaign officials across political parties to focus on competence, sincerity and issues affecting citizens.

“What works in any campaign is competence, sagacity, sincerity of purpose and, above all, the recognition of the fact that the people are the ultimate target of any campaign,” it said.

The group further cited Yari’s record as former governor of Zamfara State and his current representation in the Senate, particularly his reported scholarship programme for indigent constituents, as examples of what it described as people-centred politics.

It urged political campaigners to ensure that their messages remained relevant to the needs and concerns of Nigerians.
