2027 elections: NDC will emerge victorious – Official

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kaduna State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of failing to deliver on its promises, saying insecurity, poverty and the growing number of out-of-school children have left residents yearning for a change in 2027.

The Chairman of Kaduna Central NDC, Aminu Idris, said he was optimistic that the party would emerge victorious in the 2027 elections, arguing that the hardship confronting Nigerians had made it difficult for the APC to retain power.

Speaking at the declaration of Yunus Muhammad Salisu as the NDC candidate for a Kaduna state House of Assembly seat and the inauguration of his campaign council, Idris said the current economic situation had increased public dissatisfaction with the ruling party.

“I’m very optimistic that this upcoming election, NDC will emerge the winner,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Chikun Local Government Area (NDC) of the party, Comrade Bitrus Yahaya, said the large turnout at the programme showed that the NDC candidate was gaining acceptance among constituents.

Yahaya, who criticised the performance of the APC administration, alleged that insecurity had increased in Kaduna state, while poverty and the number of out-of-school children remained major challenges.

“The people are tired of the current administration and that is why we are yearning for a change,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the NDC would form the government after the 2027 elections, saying the party was creating opportunities for young people to participate actively in politics.

Yahaya described the emergence of young candidates such as Salisu as an indication of the party’s commitment to greater youth participation in governance.

Salisu, who is contesting for the State House of Assembly under the NDC, said his candidacy was driven by young people who, according to him, had become tired of being described as “leaders of tomorrow” without being given sufficient opportunities to lead.

“My candidacy is youth-driven candidacy, because we have been left behind, and we have been called leaders of tomorrow, and we have not seen that tomorrow,” he said.

He said the coming together of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso under the NDC had strengthened the party ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that their political experience and followership would translate into electoral gains.

Salisu urged voters to look beyond party affiliation when choosing candidates, saying integrity, competence, capacity and credibility should be the major considerations.

“This time around, we should not vote based on political parties. We should vote based on integrity, capacity, competence and credibility,” he said.

He also urged youths in his constituency to take advantage of their growing participation in politics and use the opportunity to push for what he described as better leadership.

The NDC leaders expressed confidence that the party would build on its grassroots mobilisation and growing support to challenge the APC in Kaduna state during the 2027 elections.
