2027 elections: Daniel, Amosun absent as Ogun APC inaugurates campaign council

Former Governors, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Senator Ibikunle Amosun were conspicuously absent, Thursday September 17, 2026 Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, officially inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections in Abeokuta.
Despite the absence of the two party stalwarts, Abiodun declared campaign activities officially open across the state’s 20 local government areas, 236 wards, and polling units.
He charged the newly inaugurated council to immediately begin grassroots consultations, public engagement, and strategic voter mobilization.
In his address as Chairman of the Campaign Council, the governor emphasised that electoral victories require deliberate, scientific planning rather than mere political reputation or crowd size.
He directed members to secure support for all APC candidates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, governorship candidate Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), running mate Alhaja Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun, and all legislative contenders.
Abiodun warned against factionalism and internal sabotage, noting that council appointments were “instruments of service and responsibility” rather than decorative titles..
The campaign machinery was tasked with communicating the administration’s flagship projects, including the Gateway International Airport and ongoing investments in infrastructure, agriculture, and healthcare.
The governor stressed the need for civil, issue-based campaigning, asserting that political victory loses its worth if achieved through violence or intimidation.
Former Ogun state governor and APC National Leader, Olusegun Osoba, appealed to all aggrieved party members to “sheathe their swords” and present a united front to ensure total victory at the polls.
Speaking after the inauguration, the governorship candidate, Senator Adeola, urged members to view the upcoming election as a collective duty.
He reassured those not named to the council that they remain integral to the party’s ward-level mobilization structures as campaign operations get underway under the leadership of Campaign Director-General, Senator Lekan Mustapha.
