2027 elections: ADC Benue South senatorial candidate makes promises
ADC Benue South senatorial candidate, Chief David Olofu, on Monday pledged to establish People’s Assembly and People’s Council within his first 100 days in office if elected.
Olofu who made this known when he visited the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue state council in Makurdi, said the institutions would provide a platform for residents across the wards to identify their needs and hold elected representatives accountable.
He also promised to inaugurate a technical committee to develop a comprehensive development plan for the senatorial district to guide his legislative interventions.
The candidate said his priority would include improving agriculture through land development, irrigation, fish farming and other measures aimed at increasing productivity and creating economic opportunities.
Olofu who is former commissioner of Finance in Benue state, said Benue South must take advantage of its proximity to Abuja and abundant agricultural potential to supply more food to the Federal Capital Territory and other markets.
He also pledged to lobby the Federal Government for the development of the district’s mineral and petroleum resources, saying the proposed People’s Council could mobilise prominent indigenes to pursue such issues.
On insecurity, Olofu proposed a coordinated security structure involving communities, wards, local governments and conventional security agencies, supported by a command-and-control centre.
He said his agenda was to reform political representation by making elected officials more responsive, transparent and accountable to the people who gave them their mandate.
