2026 Osun election: Panel begins review of over 300 violence claims, promises fairness

The Osun state election violence victims relief committee has commenced hearing and verification of over 300 claims received from individuals purportedly affected by violence linked to the August 15 governorship election.

After the declaration of governor Ademola Adeleke as winner of the election, he inaugurated a 10-member committee to verify claims and oversee the distribution of the state government’s N500 million relief endowment fund.

At the commencement of verification and cross-examination exercise, Thursday, the Speaker of the House of Assembly and Committee Chairman, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, stressed that careful examination is required to ensure support reaches those who genuinely suffered losses.

Egbedun reassured claimants that the committee will operate with fairness, transparency, and compassion, maintaining that every account will be objectively assessed using the presented evidence.

He also appealed to claimants for full cooperation, requesting accurate information and relevant supporting documents.

“On behalf of the committee, I assure all genuine victims that their cases will receive the attention they deserve.

“We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the relief process is credible, just, and meaningful,” Egbedun said.

Speaking before the committee at the state House of Assembly, emotional testimony was heard from Ajayi Tolulope, whose husband, Ajayi Rogba, was killed in Esa-Oke, Obokun local government area, leading up to the election.

“We saw a Sienna with two occupants, each holding two guns. They fired four shots.

“Rogba was wearing an Accord Party cap that day. We have five children in our care—two are mine, one belongs to his second wife, and two belong to his younger siblings. He was a practicing herbalist, survived by his parents,” Tolulope said.

She further alleged that her late husband had been trailed repeatedly after declining an invitation to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
