Kaduna TUC hails Kaduna governor, appeals for reinstatement of 83 workers

The Trade Union Congress (TUC), Kaduna state council, has passed a vote of confidence in the administration of Governor Uba Sani, citing what it described as “improved workers’ welfare, job security and harmonious relations with organised labour.”

The council hailed the governor at the end of its emergency state executive council meeting held at its secretariat on Friday.

In a communiqué signed by its chairperson, Comrade Abdullahi A. DanFulani, and secretary, Comrade Abdullah Y. Mohammed, the union commended the state government for ending what it described as “unnecessary retrenchment and victimisation of workers, as well as improving the timeliness of staff promotions.”

The TUC also highlighted the reinstatement of 37 staff of the Local Government Service Commission, whose appointments it said were wrongfully terminated. According to the union, Governor Uba Sani approved their reinstatement on August 15, 2026.

It further commended the government’s free CNG transport scheme for easing workers’ transportation challenges, reducing costs and improving punctuality and productivity, but appealing for its extension to Kafanchan and Zaria.

The council also cited the resuscitation of the Civil Service Welfare Loan Scheme, through which civil servants can access loans ranging from N400,000 to N1.5 million, repayable over four years at relatively low interest rates.

The union also urged the government to review the proposed relocation of the Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria from Badiko Tipper Garage to Mahuta, raising concerns over security, access roads and other facilities at the proposed location.

Another major appeal was for the reinstatement of 83 workers of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) and other agencies, which the union said were wrongfully disengaged in 2019.

 It noted that thirteen of the affected workers had died and their cases were ruled in their favour by the Industrial Court in Kaduna.

The union reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful and constructive engagement with the state government and other authorities, saying it would continue to pursue justice, fairness and inclusive governance in the interest of workers and the state.
