“The world of education is undergoing profound changes, driven by technology, Artificial Intelligence, changing societal expectations and new approaches to teaching and learning. In responding to these changes, we must ensure that the teacher remains at the centre of the education process and that innovation serves to strengthen, rather than diminish, the professional role of the teacher.
“The NUT believes that a strong education system cannot be built without a strong, respected and adequately supported teaching profession. As we embrace the opportunities presented by technological advancement, we must equally invest in preparing teachers to navigate these changes with confidence and competence. The future of education must therefore be a future in which teachers are empowered to adapt, innovate and continue to exercise their professional judgement.
“Let me at this juncture, convey the heartfelt appreciation the NUT to the Federal Ministry of Education for its continued partnership, support and collaboration with the Union, particularly in the organisation and observance of World Teachers’ Day over the years. We value this partnership and recognise the importance of sustained collaboration among government, teachers, education agencies, development partners and other stakeholders in advancing the cause of education and the teaching profession.
“We are confident that the discussions and engagements lined up for the symposium holding later today will deepen our understanding of the challenges before the teaching profession and generate meaningful perspectives towards addressing them.
“The NUT remains committed to constructive engagement and to working with the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders in building a teaching profession that is equipped and prepared for the demands of the rapidly changing world.”
