Tinubu, Mark, Fintiri Mourn Bamanga Tukur

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, and Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, have mourned the death of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur.

Tukur, who died on Saturday at the age of 90, was a prominent businessman, politician and elder statesman, who served briefly as governor of the old Gongola State and later as Minister of Industries.

In a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the late Tukur, the Tafidan Adamawa, as a towering statesman whose contributions to Nigeria’s political, economic and democratic development would remain memorable.

Tinubu said Tukur was a man deeply committed to integrity and public service, noting that the country would miss his wise counsel and fatherly guidance.

The President extended his condolences to the Tukur family, the Fombina Emirate and the people of Adamawa State, while praying for the repose of the deceased’s soul and comfort for his family and other mourners.

Mark described Tukur’s death as a great loss to Nigeria, particularly at a time when the country needed the wisdom and experience of its elder statesmen.

The ADC chairman said the late politician’s contributions to Nigeria’s political, administrative and economic development spanned several decades, covering his roles in public service, business and partisan politics.

Mark said Tukur belonged to a generation of Nigerians who devoted their lives to the service of the country, adding that his experience and counsel would be greatly missed.

Fintiri also expressed sadness over the death, describing Tukur as an elder statesman whose contributions to Adamawa State and Nigeria would remain indelible.

In honour of the late former governor, Fintiri declared three days of mourning across Adamawa State and directed that all government flags be flown at half-mast.

The governor commiserated with Tukur’s family, associates and the people of the state, while praying that Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Aljannah Firdaus.
