The Omo Apesin of Ikireland and Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Lere Oyewumi, has expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state. He stated this when the people of Ikire town in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun state came together to celebrate and thank Almighty God for the victory. The senator thanked the entire people of Ikire for their unwavering love, confidence, support and commitment before, during and after the election. Blueprint reports that the celebration, which brought together party leaders, political stakeholders, community leaders, youths, women, supporters and residents across Ikire, was marked by gratitude to God and appreciation for the people who contributed to the success of the electoral process. Oyewumi particularly appreciated the people for standing together and demonstrating their confidence in the leadership of Governor Adeleke. He described the victory as a testament to the power of the people and a renewed mandate to continue delivering good governance and development to the people of Osun state. Senator Oyewumi, however, stressed that the election had now come and gone, urging everyone to put political differences aside and return to the path of unity, peace and collective development. The Ikire-born politician said, “The election has come and gone. What matters now is the future of Ikireland. We must come together as one people, regardless of political differences, and work collectively for the progress, peace and development of our land.” The senator appealed to supporters across political divides to embrace one another, avoid bitterness and rancour, and focus on issues that will improve the lives of the people. The federal lawmaker emphasised that politics should never be allowed to destroy the longstanding relationship, brotherhood and unity that exist among the people of the ancient Ikire community. He said the time had come for everyone including political leaders, traditional institutions, religious leaders, youths, women, professionals, business owners, civil servants and residents to join hands in building a more prosperous and peaceful Ikire. The celebration also provided an opportunity to appreciate the resilience and peaceful disposition of the people of Ikire throughout the electoral period, as Senator Oyewumi commended everyone who contributed to maintaining peace and democratic participation. He encouraged the people to continue to support initiatives aimed at advancing the community. He reiterated his commitment to the development of Ikireland and assured the people that their interests, welfare and aspirations would remain a priority. The gathering concluded with prayers of thanksgiving to Almighty God for the victory, with renewed calls for peace, unity and a stronger commitment to the collective progress of Ikire. The governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADCi) in Adamawa state, Amb. Omar Sulaiman, has dared former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is the party’s presidential candidate over party ticket in the state, insisting that he still remains the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state. This followed Atiku’s open endorcement of Hammantukur Madibbo who allegedly came second in the party primaries conducted in the state, and whose name is believed to be in the INEC portal as the party’s gubernatorial candidate. Speaking at a press conference in Yola on Friday, upon his return to the state, Sulaiman expressed shocked over Atiku’s presentation of Madibbo as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state. He called on Atiku to refrain from any action capable of undermining the lawful process already undertaken by the party, adding that the issue is currently in the court for determination. “Ordinarily such post might have been dismissed as another episode of political mischief coming from a former vice president, a presidential candidate and national leader of our party and a man who publicly identifies himself as a democrat, however, it has assumed a gravity that cannot be ignored. “Let me therefore state clearly and unequivocally that I remain the duly elected gubernatorial candidate of the ADC in Adamawa state ” He further noted that the party’s governorship primary was conducted under the supervision of INEC and was witnessed by party members and the general public where he emerged victorious while Madibbo came second. He alleged that his name was duly submitted to INEC as the party’s candidate only to be substituted later after over one month. He said he suspected this kind of political manipulation that was why he approached the Federal High court to protect the intrrgrity of his mandate. and sought judicial intervention to prevent any unlawful substitution of his name where the court gave an injunction restraining INEC from accepting any substitution of his name by the party or any person. The gubernatorial hopeful added that all relevant court processes have been duly served on INEC and the party at both the state and the national levels, noting that he also has it on good authority that Atiku has been briefed of his action.

Oborevwori commends Tinubu for strengthening LG financial autonomy Amaechi Okwara Delta State Governor, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening the financial autonomy of local government councils, saying the development has enhanced their capacity to meet workers’ obligations and execute meaningful projects at the grassroots. Oborevwori made the commendation during the commissioning of the newly constructed Sheriff Oborevwori Administrative Complex and Epiphany Azinge Access Road in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State. The governor, who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for creating an enabling environment that had strengthened the financial capacity of the third tier of government to discharge its responsibilities. He said the improved financial position of local government councils had enabled them to pay workers and embark on multi-million-naira projects capable of directly impacting the lives of rural dwellers. “I also thank our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for making it possible for the third tier of government, the local government councils, to meet their financial obligations to workers and also execute multi-million-naira projects,” he said. He reiterated the commitment of his administration to executing life-enhancing projects across the 25 local government areas of Delta State, stressing that development at the grassroots remained central to his administration’s agenda. Earlier, the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon. Ezenyili Kelvin Obi, said the projects were conceived to create an environment that would enhance administrative productivity and improve the quality of services delivered to the people. Ezenyili said the administrative complex was named in honour of Governor Oborevwori in recognition of his leadership and support for local government councils in the state. According to him, the newly constructed access road was named after the Obi of Asaba, H.R.M. Prof. Epiphany Chibogu Azinge, SAN, to acknowledge his contributions to the development of the kingdom and to improve accessibility to the council secretariat. Security stakeholders, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Navy, have warned Nigerian youths against allowing themselves to be recruited into political violence, cybercrime, drug abuse, cultism and other criminal activities capable of undermining national security. The warning was issued on Thursday in Lagos at the 2026 International Youth Day celebration and Police Youth Dialogue held at the POWA Hall, where security stakeholders urged young Nigerians to become active partners in building a peaceful, secure and prosperous Nigeria. Representatives at the event included Commander Beecroft; Commodore Adams Aliu, represented by Commander E.E. Omokhodion, Commandant of the Regional Maritime Awareness Capability (RMAC) Training School; Air Commodore Muhammed Asuekhome Imam, Commander of the 651 Base Services Group, Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja; and Brigadier General Olufemi Owolabi of the Nigerian Army 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Lagos. The stakeholders said Nigeria’s large youthful population could either become an engine of economic growth and national development or be exploited by political and criminal networks for destructive purposes. They particularly cautioned youths against the misuse of social media, warning that the spread of fake news, inciting content and other harmful digital activities could create serious security challenges. The security expert at the event stressed that national security should not be regarded solely as the responsibility of the military and police, noting that ordinary citizens, especially youths, have important roles to play. According to them, young Nigerians who reject fake news, cultism, terrorism, kidnapping, cybercrime and drug abuse, report suspicious activities and choose dialogue over violence are contributing directly to national security. He urged youths to verify information before posting it online and ensure that their social media activities do not inflame tensions, particularly as the country approaches another electoral season. The stakeholders also warned against allowing politicians to use youths as instruments of electoral violence, noting that criminal records arising from cybercrime and electoral offences could affect their employment, education, international travel and visa applications for years. They therefore urged youths to reject political thuggery, intimidation, vote-related violence and other forms of electoral malpractice. The speakers challenged young Nigerians to move beyond complaining about the country and become part of the solution to its challenges. “If you see unemployment, acquire skills and create opportunities. If you see environmental degradation, become an environmental advocate. If you see insecurity, promote peace and responsible citizenship. If you see division, become a bridge. If you see corruption, choose integrity,” one of the speakers said. The stakeholders further identified technology, intelligence, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, maritime security, critical infrastructure protection and information management as critical areas that would shape Nigeria’s future security architecture. They encouraged youths to acquire relevant skills, understand technology, read widely, think critically, improve their communication abilities and develop strong character. They also urged young Nigerians to regard Nigeria’s ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity as a strength rather than a source of division. The event called for stronger collaboration among the police, other security agencies, government institutions, community leaders and youths in preventing crime and strengthening national security. The stakeholders maintained that Nigeria’s future could not be built by government alone, but through the collective responsibility of citizens, particularly the younger generation. They urged youths to ensure that their generation would be remembered for responsibility, competence, courage, integrity and nation-building rather than violence and criminality.
