Stop blaming Tinubu for your failure, APC governorship candidate Alli tells Makinde

Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, Wednesday, asked Governor Seyi Makinde to stop blaming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s failure.

The campaign organisation in a statement signed by its director of Media and Publicity, Prince Bisi Oladele, said Governor Makinde’s comments on his administration’s continued reliance on diesel-powered generators to operate streetlights across Oyo state is embarrassing.

Oladele noted Governor Makinde’s claim that it was the failure of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inability to fix the nation’s electricity within the first four years that forced his administration to rely on diesel-powered generators to operate streetlights across Oyo state.

He stated that the Electricity Act 2023, signed into law by President Tinubu, empowered states to generate, transmit and distribute electricity to meet the energy needs of their people.

The campaign organisation said Oyo state had established the Oyo state Electricity Regulatory Commission and completed the transfer of regulatory oversight from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), giving the state the legal and regulatory authority to attract investors, license electricity projects and develop sustainable power solutions.

“Blaming irregular power supply was particularly embarrassing for a governor who prides himself on being an electrical engineer. “The purpose of leadership is to solve problems rather than use them as excuses for failure,” it said.

Oladede added: “Governor Makinde therefore has no excuse for his own incompetence and glaring failure. The state should have taken advantage of the opportunity created by the law.

“After more than seven years in office, the governor cannot continue blaming external forces for problems that fall within the authority and capacity of his administration to address.”
