Sowore joins New York protest against Israel’s Gaza war

Popular Nigerian activist and 2027 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, on Thursday joined a pro-Palestinian protest in New York, United States, calling for an end to Israel’s war in Gaza.

Sowore disclosed his participation in the protest in a post shared on his official X handle on Friday.

The activist said he joined demonstrators in New York to protest what he described as human rights abuses and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Sowore declares support for Palestine

Sowore said the protest was an opportunity to demand justice for Palestinians and condemn Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

“Yes, today in New York, I joined the Free Palestine protest. No justice, no peace! #FreePalestine!” he wrote.

He added that he condemned what he described as genocide being committed by the Israeli state in Gaza.

“I condemn the genocide being committed by the state of Israel in Gaza,” Sowore stated.

The activist also said his participation was intended to demonstrate support for Palestinians and communicate that Nigerians could stand in solidarity with calls for human rights.

“I joined to make it clear that Nigerians stand for justice and human rights for Palestinians,” he added.

Protests held as Netanyahu addresses UN

The protest took place as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday.

Multiple demonstrations were held in the city as protesters criticised Israel’s conduct of the war in Gaza and demanded accountability over the conflict.

Reports said thousands of demonstrators participated in protests, with calls also made for an end to United States military support for Israel.

More than 100 people were reportedly arrested during the demonstrations.

Sowore’s participation adds to his public advocacy on international human rights issues as he prepares for the 2027 presidential election in Nigeria.
