Rivers: NDC candidate Briggs personifies new order – South-east group
The South East Good Governance Advocates (SEGGA) has endorsed the governorship ambition of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in Rivers state, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs.
The group declared that the state was ripe for a new political direction anchored on competence, economic development and inclusive leadership.
A statement jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Kelechi Opara, and National Secretary, Promise Ezeocha (SEGGA), said its decision followed “a comprehensive assessment of the political environment in Rivers state and the credentials of those seeking to occupy the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The statement described Lulu-Briggs as a leader whose experience in business, philanthropy and community development had positioned him as a credible alternative capable of steering the state towards stability and prosperity.
According to the group, Rivers state could no longer afford the distractions of political conflicts, godfatherism and divisive politics, insisting that governance should now be driven by policies that promote economic growth, youth empowerment, institutional development and social cohesion.
SEGGA noted that Lulu-Briggs has distinguished himself over the years through entrepreneurship, philanthropy and community engagement, arguing that his background gives him a practical understanding of investment attraction, job creation and wealth generation.
The organisation maintained that unlike many politicians whose influence is largely built around political structures, the NDC candidate has established a reputation beyond partisan politics through contributions to human capital development and community advancement.
It added, “his vision for Rivers State, which focuses on industrialisation, infrastructure expansion, agriculture, tourism, technology and the blue economy, reflects a development-oriented agenda capable of unlocking the state’s vast economic potential.
“Rivers State deserves a governor who understands both governance and enterprise. Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs represents a new generation of leadership that combines competence, vision, inclusiveness and proven capacity.
SEGGA also commended the emergence of Lulu-Briggs as the NDC governorship candidate and the legal affirmation of his candidature, describing the development as evidence of growing confidence in his leadership within the party.
Beyond Rivers State, the advocacy group said the Nigeria Democratic Congress is increasingly positioning itself as a major political force capable of reshaping Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
It argued that the party has attracted citizens seeking an alternative to traditional political practices and is offering what it described as a platform built on accountability, transparency, inclusion and people-centred governance.
“The NDC represents more than a political party; it represents the growing aspiration of Nigerians for a new political culture founded on competence, transparency, inclusion and service,” the statement said.
The group further maintained that the emergence of new political platforms was healthy for democracy and national development, stressing that the country’s future should not be determined solely by entrenched political interests.
