"Case of 1m, they are asking for 450K mobilisation fee" social commentator Timothy Gabriel calls out police

A man has accused officers of the FCT Police Command of demanding four hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N450,000) as mobilisation fee when he went with a friend to report a case of fraud.
Timothy Gabriel, a social commentator, said his friend needed the gearbox of his vehicle replaced and the mechanic charged him an exorbitant amount, claiming he was going to buy a brand new gearbox. However, the customer later discovered that an old gearbox was what the mechanic allegedly fixed for him.
According to Timothy, he went with his friend to the police station in Garki, Abuja, to report the mechanic for fraudulently obtaining N1 million from his friend.
He claims that the police officers at Garki then asked them to pay N450K for mobilisation.
Timothy asked why nearly half the amount they are trying to recover is being demanded by the police to take up the case.
“This is injustice,” he said as he called out the police force.
He pointed out that the Inspector General of Police has repeatedly stated that demanding “mobilisation fee” to investigate a crime is illegal.

“IGP, we need your attention. What is going on?” Timothy asked.
“This is fraud. This is illegal,” he added.
