Scores of retired army veterans on Tuesday blocked the doorway to the Military Pensions Board workplace in Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, over issues in regards to the system adopted for adjusting the increment of their pensions.

The veterans, as early as 8 a.m., barricaded the doorway with canopies and chairs, whereas armed troopers prevented them from getting into the premises.
The motion comes weeks after army retirees protested on the Ministry of Defence in September, demanding a rise of their pensions following wage changes for serving army personnel.

Recall that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa Rtd, had in August promised that the retirees would obtain a rise of their pensions in October following President Tinubu’s approval for a rise in salaries of armed forces personnel.
Speaking in an interview, one of many coordinators of the Veterans Association of Nigeria, Lt Col Innocent Azubike Rtd, alleged that the board had adopted a pension adjustment system that allegedly short-changed some retirees.

Azubike mentioned the deliberate protest adopted rising dissatisfaction amongst veterans over the implementation of consequential changes to their pensions.

The veterans’ issues centre on the system used to calculate the changes, which they consider has didn’t adequately mirror the wage will increase granted to serving army personnel.
