2027: Timi Frank accuses Tinubu of utilizing judiciary towards opposition, requires US intervention
Timi Frank, a former Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused President Bola Tinubu of utilizing the judiciary to weaken opposition events forward of the 2027 presidential election.
Frank made the allegation in a press release issued on Thursday.
His response adopted a Federal High Court judgment on Thursday that eliminated David Mark’s management of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
In response to the ruling, Frank urged the United States Government and different members of the worldwide group to intervene by calling on the Nigerian authorities to uphold democratic ideas, judicial independence and the constitutional rights of opposition events.
“The recent court judgment has raised serious concerns about what appears to be a desperate act by the Presidency—an act reminiscent of a dying man clutching at straws.
“It is a determined act from the Presidency. I need to warn that the judiciary should keep away from the 2027 elections. Its independence and impartiality are basic to the survival of our democracy,” he said.
Frank further called on the international community, particularly the United States, to closely monitor political developments in Nigeria, warning that the alleged use of the judiciary against opposition parties could undermine democratic institutions.
“The worldwide group, notably the United States, should pay shut consideration to developments in Nigeria. The alleged weaponisation of the judiciary towards the opposition forward of the 2027 elections poses a grave menace to our democracy and will plunge Africa’s largest nation right into a critical political disaster,” he stated.
