For being poorly paid and other accruing benefits, the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Enugu state chapter, has embarked on a seven-day warning strike.

The disgruntled law officers which started the warning strike on Friday, October 2, 2026 is because the government failed to address their grievances of poor remuneration as well as welfare packages.

This was contained in a statement signed by its chairman, Comrade K.P. Onyia, and the secretary, Comrade M.O. Onyeze, released Friday in Enugu.

According to the law officers, the strike followed prolonged efforts to get the government to address what it described as the “plight of law officers” in the state.

The grouse that led to the industrial action, the association pointed out, is the demand for full harmonisation of law officers’ remuneration with those of magistrates.

They are also demanding the payment of members’ Bar Practising Fees and annual Bar Conference fees.

Other demands include the payment and restoration of several allowances and professional fees, the full restoration and payment, including arrears, of law officers’ transportation, hazard and wardrobe allowances.

The statement indicated further that the warning strike, which began at midnight on Friday, would last for seven judicial days.

“During the strike, no law officer in Abuja or Lagos Liaison Offices, the Government House or any Ministry, Department or Agency should be on duty, attend court, or visit correctional centres, police stations or other law enforcement agencies in furtherance of official duties.

“The law officers should refrain from carrying out government business in line with the association’s collective resolution,” the statement read in part.

The association, however, expressed the hope that the seven-day warning strike would provide the authorities with an opportunity to address the outstanding demands and avert further industrial actions.
