Police arrest suspect after armed clash in Bauchi
The Bauchi State Police Command has restored normalcy in the Tudun Yarima area of Bauchi metropolis following an armed clash involving suspected thugs.
The incident occurred at about 8:30 pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, after the police received a distress call.
Patrol teams from the ‘A’ Division Township, alongside other joint patrol teams, were deployed to the area, where they dispersed the hoodlums and arrested suspects linked to the disturbance.
The police said several residents who sustained injuries were evacuated to Tashan Babiye Government Hospital for treatment, while some remained on admission.
According to preliminary investigations, the crisis started after 25-year-old Babanyaya Aliyu allegedly conspired with others to attack the residence of a resident identified as Imrana.
The suspects allegedly attacked Imrana’s 27-year-old wife while attempting to steal her Itel Android phone, valued at N100,000. They also allegedly vandalised a motorcycle and a tricycle before fleeing.
The incident later triggered a reprisal attack, in which Imrana and others allegedly attacked the suspect’s mother, leaving her injured.
Police said one suspect is in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest others still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the violence and urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
“We condemn in strong terms the resort to self-help and acts capable of disturbing public peace,” the commissioner said.
He assured residents that the command would continue to protect lives and property while urging them to seek redress through lawful channels.
“The Command remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property,” Aliyu said.
The police said the investigation is ongoing and further developments will be communicated.
