Police arrest 27-year-old man over alleged killing of infant daughter in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Muhammad Garba Ladan, over the alleged killing of his four-month-old daughter, Fatimah Muhammad, in Zirami, Azare.

The command said the incident was reported on Thursday, September 24, 2026, after the child’s mother told the police that she had left her daughter asleep but returned to find her unconscious and not breathing.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the mother also reported seeing her husband, Ladan, coming out of the room shortly before she discovered the child’s condition.

The police said the baby was rushed to the General Hospital, Azare, where a doctor confirmed her death and attributed it to strangulation.

Following the report, the police arrested the suspect and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

The command said the investigation was ongoing and that the case would subsequently be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.
