PFIPC probe: Reps ask IGP to produce phantom DG, Adeyemi on Wednesday

The Ad hoc Committee of the House of Representatives investigating the alleged operation of the phantom Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has asked the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu to produce its supposed Director General, Martin Adeyemi before it on Wednesday.

The committee issued the directive on Monday, following the conformation by the Nigeria Police that the key suspect was under criminal prosection based on the allegations, including petitions from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The police pointed out that Gbajabiamila alleged that Adeyemi fraudulently presented himself as the Director-General of the purported  Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the PFIPC.

Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi said Adeyemi’s appearance had become necessary because of the gravity of the allegations and their implications for individuals and government institutions.

“This committee clearly needs the suspected DG to appear before it. People’s names are involved. People’s integrity are involved. Institutional names are involved. Institutional integrity are involved.

“It’s not an option now. We will need him here to confirm some documents to us in such a way that will not undermine our investigation, to enable us to submit our report on time,” Gagdi said.

To that end, he directed the secretariat of the committee to write a letter to the IGP on the need produce Adeyemi.

“The committee hereby resolves that the Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, do kindly present Mr. Adeyemi Martin on Wednesday by 12 noon. That is the ruling of the committee,” he  declared.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Basir Abdullahi had earlier informed the committee that “the Nigerian Police Force investigated part of this case late last year and filed eight-count charges before a Federal High Court. The case is ongoing.”
