A single mother of two, Sandra Okpara, has recovered ₦1,640,200 mistakenly transferred to an account linked to Pastor Jerry Eze’s Streams of Joy International, after her video appeal went viral on social media.

Okpara explained that she had intended to make a small offering of ₦1,000 but accidentally sent over ₦1.6 million to the church’s account.

Realising the error, she approached her bank but was told recovery would require a court order. She then made a public appeal online, stressing that the money belonged to others she was meant to pay.

“This money is not my money. I cannot do offering of ₦1,640,200. Please help me trace the accounts,” she pleaded in the video.

The church responded swiftly after seeing the viral clip, contacting Okpara and confirming the transaction before refunding the full amount. In a statement on X, Streams of Joy International said:“We have transferred her money back to her.”

The church added that while no formal complaint had been lodged before the video, its communication channels remain open for reports of erroneous transactions.

Okpara confirmed receiving the refund at about 6:22 a.m. on Saturday, expressing relief and gratitude.“100 per cent. I was refunded this morning after one of their staff contacted me,” she said.

She clarified that her intention was not to tarnish Pastor Jerry Eze’s image but to seek help, noting the power of social media in amplifying her appeal.
