Three suspects are now with the Oyo state Police Command over the gruesome murder and robbery of a family at Oloba village, Lagelu local government area of Ibadan.

The Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Oyo state Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, in a statement, Tuesday, said preliminary investigation revealed that the three suspects, Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all of Oloba village, invaded the residence of one Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children.

He stressed that during the invasion, the suspects were armed “with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club, which they used in carrying out the attack.”

The PPRO said the suspects robbed the family of N200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.

“In the course of the attack, Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward inflicted injuries on the wife by hitting her on the head.

“The attack subsequently took a fatal turn as the suspects tied two of the children by their hands and legs and threw them into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were killed and their bodies disposed off in the same river,” he said.

DSP Ayanlade added that, “In continuation of the investigation, detectives of the Command visited the scene, where photographs were taken and several exhibits were recovered.

“The recovered items include the Boxer motorcycle belonging to the family, one locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and the club used during the attack. The three suspects were subsequently arrested and detained.

“Following their arrest, the suspects were subjected to interrogation during which the three confessed to their involvement in the crime. The remains of the wife have since been recovered, while concerted efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the four other victims, all members of the same family, who were dumped in the river.”
