The Rotary Club of Abuja, known as The Ambassadors, has distributed maternal and delivery kits to pregnant women at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Orozo, Abuja, as part of a four-in-one community intervention aimed at improving maternal and child health and promoting community development.

The three-hour intervention, which covered Orozo 1 and Orozo 2 communities, also featured health education, basic education and literacy promotion, economic empowerment initiatives and the induction of new members into the Rotary service network.

Speaking during the programme, the President of Rotary Club of Abuja, The Ambassadors, Prince Heberts Ezechinyere, urged expectant mothers to prioritise regular antenatal and postnatal care and promptly seek medical attention whenever they notice health concerns.

Ezechinyere encouraged the women to keep their antenatal appointments, follow medical advice and prepare adequately for childbirth, stressing the importance of continued healthcare after delivery.

He said maternal healthcare should not end with childbirth, but should extend through the postnatal period to safeguard the health and wellbeing of both mothers and their babies.

The distribution of the maternal and delivery kits was aimed at reducing some of the immediate material challenges faced by vulnerable pregnant women as they prepare for childbirth.

The club also encouraged residents to make greater use of available healthcare services, while highlighting financial and other barriers that could prevent vulnerable women from accessing essential maternal healthcare.

Beyond healthcare, the intervention incorporated basic education and literacy, reflecting the club’s focus on education as a tool for improving livelihoods and strengthening community resilience.

The programme also featured the induction of new Rotary members, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to volunteerism and its “Service Above Self” philosophy.

The club said the engagement provided an opportunity to interact directly with healthcare workers, expectant mothers, community leaders and other residents, while identifying additional needs at the Primary Healthcare Centre for possible future intervention.
