NAF commissions accommodation, recreational projects to boost personnel morale, operational effectiveness

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing personnel welfare and operational effectiveness with the commissioning of newly completed accommodation and recreational facilities in Abuja.

A statement Friday by Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed  that the projects, commissioned by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, include Airmen’s Quarters at Mogadishu Cantonment and Abacha Road, 065 Medical Officer’s Quarters, and the NAF Valley Base Sports Complex, Asokoro.

Speaking at the occasion, the CAS described the development as “another significant milestone in the continuing efforts of the Nigerian Air Force towards enhancing personnel welfare and infrastructural development.”

He noted that the projects were not merely about unveiling facilities, but represented “our deliberate commitment to improving the living conditions, physical well-being and overall effectiveness of our personnel.”

Air Marshal Aneke explained that the demands of military service require personnel to remain focused, physically fit and mentally prepared.

He therefore emphasised that adequate accommodation and recreational facilities are essential to improving morale, strengthening cohesion and sustaining operational readiness.

 According to him, the accommodation projects would provide “a more conducive and secure living environment for our airmen,” while the sports complex would promote “physical fitness, recreation, teamwork and esprit de corps.”

The CAS further disclosed that the NAF is developing a sustainable formula to enable the average NAF personnel to own a home.

He stated that discussions are ongoing with banks and relevant government agencies to address the factors that make housing expensive and limit personnel access to affordable homeownership. He stressed that the initiative reflects the Service’s immense commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families, both during active service and beyond.

He also revealed that blocks of the newly commissioned accommodation have been named after officers and airmen who paid the supreme price or distinguished themselves gallantly in the operational theatre.

 The gesture, he noted, would preserve the memory of the fallen, honour the immense sacrifices and gallantry of the personnel so recognised, and inspire future generations of personnel. The projects, he added, align with a key enabler of his leadership vision: “maintaining a highly motivated force by enhancing welfare and infrastructural renewal.”

The CAS commended all those who contributed to the successful completion of the projects and urged beneficiaries to ensure their “proper maintenance and judicious use.”

 He assured that the NAF would continue, within available resources, to pursue initiatives that improve the living and working conditions of its personnel while strengthening its capacity to discharge its constitutional responsibilities. The commissioning underscores the Service’s commitment to building a well-supported, motivated and operationally effective force.
