Military air crash: NOA urges Nigerians to honour fallen NAF officers
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to honour the fallen personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) by observing the three-day national mourning declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with dignity and respect.
The agency also said it would intensify efforts to ensure proper observance of the national flag, following the president’s directive that the flag be flown at half-mast during the mourning period.
The NOA director-general, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, stated this in a condolence message to the NAF and families of the personnel who died in the aircraft crash in the Igbokoda area of Ondo state.
Issa-Onilu described the incident as a painful loss to the nation, saying the fallen officers embodied courage, discipline, patriotism and commitment to national service.
He said their sacrifice in the service of the country would not be forgotten, while urging Nigerians to use the mourning period to reflect on the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces and their responsibility to uphold national unity and patriotism.
The NOA boss said the national flag remained a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s sovereignty, unity and shared identity, stressing the need for citizens to accord it the respect it deserves, particularly during the period of national mourning.
He commiserated with the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and personnel of the NAF, as well as the families of the deceased, assuring them of the agency’s solidarity.
