Her remarks came after Mamdani declared that Netanyahu was “not welcome in New York City” and described the Israeli leader as a “war criminal,” citing the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against him.

Posting on X, Loomer wrote, “Ban Muslims from holding office in America.” She also appealed directly to President Trump, urging him to restore restrictions on Muslim entry into the United States.

“We are never going to Make America Safe Again until President Trump goes back to implementing his Muslim ban. This time, make it a Muslim Ban as it was intended to be. Not an Islamic travel ban,” Loomer wrote. The comments represent one of her strongest public calls for restrictions based explicitly on religion.

Loomer accused Mamdani of sympathising with Iran and Hamas and claimed he posed a national security risk. She further alleged, without publicly presenting evidence, that unnamed FBI officials had expressed concerns regarding the New York mayor.

Citing what she described as a senior FBI source, Loomer claimed Mamdani would never receive FBI security clearance because authorities allegedly believed he could have direct communication with terrorist organisations.

Neither the FBI nor the Trump administration has publicly confirmed those claims. No publicly available evidence has been released supporting Loomer’s allegations.

The controversy followed a video released by Mamdani on Tuesday in which he criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and called for US authorities to respect the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant.

Mamdani described Netanyahu as “a war criminal” and accused him of overseeing atrocities during Israel’s military operations in Gaza. “There is a reason the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest,” Mamdani said, adding that he believes Netanyahu should be arrested and tried in accordance with the ICC process.

He also accused the Israeli leader of causing widespread civilian suffering during the conflict, including attacks on hospitals and restrictions on humanitarian assistance.

The exchange highlights the increasingly polarised debate in American politics over the Israel-Gaza war, with criticism of Israeli military operations drawing strong responses from pro-Israel conservatives and members of the MAGA movement. Loomer has been among Trump’s most vocal supporters and has frequently taken hardline positions on immigration, Islam and US national security.

Her latest comments are likely to intensify political tensions surrounding both US Middle East policy and the growing national profile of Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
