Lagos: LASEMA clears 7up  gridlock, battles Mushin fire

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Tuesday prevented two separate emergencies from escalating into serious threats to lives and traffic movement across the state.

While emergency responders battled a fire that engulfed a room on the top floor of a storey building at Oke Arin Street, Mushin, another LASEMA team moved swiftly to remove a broken-down vehicle that was obstructing traffic around the 7UP Bus Stop axis.

At Mushin, the agency’s Alpha Eagle Team, deployed from Cappa Base, received a distress call at about 1:26pm and arrived at No. 14, Oke Arin Street, where the fire had already engulfed a room on the top floor of the building.

The response involved the Eagle Response Team, LASEMA Response Unit Fire Team and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

Their coordinated operation successfully contained the fire, extinguished the flames and dampened the affected area to prevent the inferno from spreading to adjoining structures.

Although the immediate cause of the fire could not be established as of the time of the preliminary assessment, the agency confirmed that no casualty or loss of life was recorded.

In a separate operation, LASEMA’s Tiger Team, deployed from its Command and Control Centre, responded to a vehicular breakdown at 7UP Bus Stop.

A Hyundai minibus with registration number SMK 387XA had suffered battery failure opposite the Federal Road Safety Corps office, creating the potential for traffic disruption along the busy corridor. The agency said its LRT team promptly deployed a heavy-duty tow truck to recover the vehicle and moved it to the State House for safekeeping.

The intervention restored traffic flow and reduced the risk of further obstruction or a secondary incident along the route.
