Ikeja Electric Official Electrocuted In Lagos

An official of Ikeja Electric Plc is fighting for his life after he was reportedly electrocuted in the Gbagada area of Lagos State on Thursday afternoon.

The official was said to have suffered an electric shock and sustained burns while working on a pole around Gbagada Bus Stop.

In a viral video of the incident, the victim’s colleagues could be seen using a ladder to bring him down from the pole.

An eyewitness who filmed the incident could be heard identifying the location as Gbagada Bus Stop.

“This is Gbagada Bus Stop. This incident just happened now. Light just shocked the guy; he is a NEPA guy. Now they’re trying to bring him down; he’s not dead,” the eyewitness said.

The eyewitness added that the victim’s exact medical condition could not be confirmed at the scene.

As of the time of filing this report, Ikeja Electric had not issued an official statement on the incident.

The incident comes about three years after two officials of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company were electrocuted in the Obalende area of Lagos in March 2023.

One of the victims, identified as Umaru, was reportedly electrocuted while digging to locate a faulty transformer cable in the P&T, Obalende area.

Another official, 48-year-old Sunday Awaruwa, was also electrocuted while attempting to rescue Umaru, who was 51 at the time.

Both men died in the incident.
