Police arrest 79 suspects, recover weapons, drugs in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has arrested 79 suspects and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs in the state.
The arrests followed security operations conducted during the 2026 Takutaba celebration in the state.
The celebration, which took place on September 1, was observed peacefully across the state as a result of coordinated, intelligence-led and proactive security arrangements put in place before, during and after the festivities.
Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, explained that the operations were carried out by the command’s tactical units, including the Anti-Daba, Anti-Kidnapping and VCRU units, alongside personnel from the Ungogo, Sharada, Bachirawa, Rijiyar Lemo, Mandawari, Kwalli and Gwale police divisions, to ensure the success of the celebration.
CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the state command’s spokesman, said in a statement that the suspects were arrested for various alleged offences, although the police did not specify the individual offences involved.
According to the statement, “Dangerous weapons and illicit drugs were recovered during the operations, even as the suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.”
Bakori commended residents for their peaceful conduct and cooperation with security agencies before, during and after the celebration.
