Governor Alia Open to Partnerships for State Development – CPS Kula

The Chief Press Secretary to Benue State Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, has reaffirmed that Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia is committed to partnering with any group that presents a positive agenda for the state’s progress.

Kula gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving the leadership of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Benue State Chapter, led by Chairman Dr. Philip Toryue, at the Government House in Makurdi.

He pledged the administration’s support in strengthening government communication, enhancing public enlightenment, and countering misinformation.

According to Kula, the government is ready to collaborate with the institute on professional communication, crisis management, and reputation building.

He disclosed that discussions are underway to establish public relations as a recognized career structure in the Benue State Public Service, following deliberations at a recent workshop organized by the Federal Ministry of Information and NIPR.

He endorsed the institute’s proposed annual training programme for government spokespersons and promised to secure participation slots for Benue members at the upcoming World Public Relations Forum in Abuja.

Kula also assured support for the chapter’s efforts to secure permanent office accommodation and pledged participation in the NIPR roadshow scheduled for Saturday.

Highlighting Governor Alia’s vision, Kula noted that progress is being recorded in infrastructure, education, and industry.

He urged NIPR to play a stronger role in public orientation and combating false information, particularly on social media.In his remarks, Dr. Toryue commended Governor Alia for appointing one of NIPR’s members as CPS and outlined challenges facing the chapter, including lack of recognition and inadequate sponsorship.

He appealed for government support in establishing a state secretariat, sponsoring members for capacity-building programmes, and ensuring that public relations positions in government institutions are filled by certified practitioners.

Toryue also announced plans for a political manifesto debate ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that effective collaboration between government and professional communicators would enhance Benue’s image.
