FRSC tackles Niger gridlock, mourns Olu Jacobs
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced an urgent intervention to address prolonged traffic gridlock along the Bida–Kutigi corridor in Niger state.
It dismissed claims of political allocation of recruitment slots and mourned the death of veteran actor and Celebrity Special Marshal, Chief Olu Jacobs.
The three developments were contained in separate statements issued by the corps spokesperson, Osondu Ohaeri, Thursday in Abuja.
The FRSC, in collaboration with the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Works, have taken measures to restore traffic flow along affected sections of the Bida–Kutigi corridor following a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The intervention seeks to ease the hardship faced by motorists, commuters and transport operators affected by prolonged road obstructions.
The decision followed a high level meeting involving the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Transport and Mobility, Prince Ademola Adetokunbo and national president of the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Alhaji Yusuf Lawal.
The FRSC said the Bida and Kutigi commands have continued to deploy personnel to manage traffic and ease congestion.
It also reported prolonged blockages along sections of the Bida–Badeggi–Agaie road and the Maje–Diko Junction axis, in front of the Suleja NNPC Depot, with both obstructions reportedly lasting about 15 days.
The Corps Marshal directed personnel to sustain strategic traffic management operations while the presidency and the Works Ministry work towards resolving the underlying road obstructions.
The Corps clarified that no appointment letters have been issued to candidates in the ongoing 2026 recruitment exercise.
The Corps stated that invitations do not constitute formal appointments, as candidates must complete prescribed training, screening, regimentation and other mandatory processes before being considered for recruitment.
I said formal appointments will only be communicated after the recruitment process has been concluded.
