Ex-PDP vice chairman Daniel Osi Orbih dies

Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, a prominent ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and former National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the Peoples Democratic Party, has died.

Orbih died on Monday, August 31, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family.

The family described his death as a painful loss in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih on behalf of the family.

“With profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God, the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih announce the passing of our beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, who passed away on Monday, 31 August 2026.”

Prominent PDP figure

Orbih was one of Wike’s closest political associates and a prominent figure in the South-South bloc of the PDP.

He played a significant role in the party’s affairs in Edo State and was widely regarded as one of Wike’s loyal allies during the internal crisis that affected the PDP.

His political influence extended across the South-South region, where he remained an important figure within the party before his death.

Family mourns

Orbih is survived by his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih; his daughters, Ms Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters; and other members of his extended family.

The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they mourn his death.

“At this difficult time, we ask family members, friends and well-wishers to remember the entire family in their prayers as we mourn this painful loss. Further details will be announced in due course.”

The family said funeral arrangements would be announced later.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.
