Ex-Katsina senator Bello Mandiya dies

Former Senator representing Katsina South, Bello Mandiya, has died at the age of 62.

Mandiya died on Monday, September 7, 2026, according to a statement issued by Ibrahim Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda.

Radda expressed shock and sadness over the death, describing Mandiya’s passing as a significant loss to Katsina State and Nigeria.

“I received with shock and deep sadness the news of the death of Senator Bello Mandiya. His passing is a great loss to Katsina State and Nigeria,” the governor said.

Radda described the late senator as a committed public servant who made contributions to the development of Katsina State and Nigeria.

“Senator Mandiya dedicated part of his life to public service and served our people with commitment. His contributions will remain remembered,” he added.

Mandiya’s public service career

According to Governor Radda, Mandiya previously served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari.

He later contested and won a seat in the Senate, where he represented Katsina South Senatorial District between 2019 and 2023.

Radda noted that Mandiya’s experience at both the state and federal levels formed an important part of his public service legacy.

The governor said the late politician served the people with dedication and contributed to public affairs during his years in government.

Condolences to family and associates

Radda extended his condolences to Mandiya’s immediate family and former Governor Masari following the senator’s death.

He also commiserated with the people of Katsina South, Mandiya’s political associates and friends, as well as his former colleagues in the ninth Senate.

The governor prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant strength to those mourning his death.

“I pray Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. May Allah give his family and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss,” Radda said.

Mandiya’s death comes as a loss to Katsina’s political community, where he served at both state and federal levels before leaving the Senate in 2023.
