Ex DGSS, NIA Albert Horsefall dies at 84

Nigeria has lost one of its finest intelligence officers and true patriots, Chief Albert Horsfall, whose death has been announced by the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Ajayi.

Chief Horsfall was an exceptional public servant who devoted his life to the security and development of Nigeria.

A pioneer of Nigeria’s modern intelligence architecture, he served as the first Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and later as Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), now DSS, from 1990 to 1992.

His career was distinguished by intelligence expertise, courage, patriotism and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria. He also later served as the pioneer Chairman of OMPADEC, contributing to the development of the Niger Delta.

His passing has been described as a profound loss to his family, Rivers state, the Ijaw Nation and the entire Federal Republic of Nigeria. Our nation owes Chief Albert Korubo Horsfall a great debt of gratitude for his decades of dedicated and distinguished service.

May his memory continue to inspire those who serve Nigeria, and may his heroic soul rest in perfect peace.

Chief Horsfall, who served as DGSS from 1990 to 1992 and pioneer DG of the NIA, died on Wednesday, September 9,  at a Lagos hospital after a prolonged illness).

He was aged 84.

Chief Horsefall served in other roles including: Pioneer Chairman of OMPADEC and a former police officer and foundation staff of the National Security Organisation (NSO).

He was an exceptional public servant who devoted his life to the security and development of Nigeria. A pioneer of Nigeria’s modern intelligence.
