Emir of Gumel Muhammad-Sani dies at 85, northern govs mourns

His death comes four days after the passing of the Emir of Zurmi, Bello Suleiman, in Zamfara state. The monarch died on Monday at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.

The late emir of Gumel began his early education at the Gumel Primary School (1948–1953) before proceeding to Hadejia Middle School (1953–1956). He completed his secondary education at Rumfa College (then Kano High School) in 1961.

Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Gombe state governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, expressed the governors’ condolences in a message issued by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Misilli.

The governor described the late traditional ruler as a respected ruler just as he praised his wisdom, humility, peace-building efforts and commitment to the welfare and development of his people.

While pointing out the stability, unity and progress of the Gumel Emirate during his reign, the governor said:  “Throughout his years on the throne, the late royal father made significant contributions to the stability, unity and progress of the Gumel Emirate, leaving behind a legacy that would continue to inspire generations.”

The NSGF chairman urged members of the royal family and the people of the emirate to sustain the values of peace, unity, service and community development associated with the late monarch.
