Adeleke Faces Backlash Over Tinubu Endorsement

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has drawn criticism after publicly endorsing President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Adeleke, who secured re-election in Saturday’s tightly contested governorship poll, made the endorsement during a Channels TV interview on Sunday, stating his support was based on Tinubu being a fellow Yoruba man.

The remark sparked outrage among supporters, many of whom took to social media to express disappointment, accusing the governor of betraying the sacrifices made during his re-election battle.

One user, Dr Kenon, wrote: “Governor Ademola said he’s supporting Tinubu because he’s a Yoruba man. That’s very embarrassing and disappointing.”

Another, Lola Okunrin, lamented: “Osun people stood against Tinubu and his APC team. Twenty-eight died, and this is how you pay them back.”

Critics argued Adeleke’s stance was rooted in tribal loyalty rather than governance or competence. Others recalled past tensions between Tinubu’s camp and Adeleke’s administration, questioning the governor’s political judgment.

FarmerCrypt, another commentator, noted: “When the same Tinubu government whose first lady advises people to fry akara and roast corn is being endorsed, only the most disconnected would still line up to vote them back in.”

The backlash underscores growing discontent among Adeleke’s base, with many insisting that Osun voters remain opposed to Tinubu’s leadership despite the governor’s endorsement.
