Former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Adamawa State, Abdulrahman Haske, has defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Haske announced his resignation from the APC and defection to the APM on Saturday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, before he was formally presented as the party’s governorship candidate.

The development was contained in a statement signed by Haske’s Publicity Secretary, Abdulgaffar Ahmed.

Explaining his decision, Haske said his defection was driven by his conviction that the APM offered a platform through which he could pursue a people-centred development agenda in the state.

He described the move as a “convergence of principle and purpose”, saying his political agenda would focus on accountable leadership, economic empowerment, youth inclusion, social development and sustainable growth.

“Every political journey reaches moments that demand courage, reflection and a clear sense of direction. This is one of those moments,” Haske said.

“I have chosen a path driven by purpose, conviction and a renewed commitment to the people of Adamawa.

“The message is simple: politics must evolve, leadership must listen, and Adamawa must come first.

“A new chapter begins today.

“A different platform. A bigger mission. A clear direction.”

Haske said his decision to join the APM was not merely about changing political parties but about strengthening what he described as a movement focused on the future of Adamawa.

“Today is not merely about joining a political party; it is about strengthening a movement dedicated to the future of Adamawa State,” he said.

“Our objective remains clear: to build a state where governance works for the people, where young people have opportunities to succeed, where communities are connected to development, and where public resources are managed transparently for the common good.”

He pledged to prioritise agriculture, infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic empowerment, security and accountable governance if elected governor in 2027.

Haske also expressed appreciation to the national and state leadership of the APM for giving him the party’s ticket, saying he accepted the responsibility with a commitment to serving the people of the state.

“I am deeply grateful to the leadership of the Allied Peoples Movement for their belief in our shared vision and for entrusting me with the responsibility of carrying the party’s flag in the 2027 governorship election,” he said.

“I accept this mandate with humility and an unwavering determination to justify this confidence through integrity, hard work and dedicated service to the people of Adamawa State.”

The National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, said the party chose Haske after consultations with stakeholders.

Dantalle said Haske’s political philosophy aligned with the party’s stated commitment to people-centred governance.

“After extensive consultations, we are convinced that Abdulrahman Haske embodies the values and principles for which the Allied Peoples Movement stands,” he said.

“His belief in empowering ordinary citizens, promoting inclusive development and building stronger communities aligns perfectly with our progressive vision.

“We are confident that he possesses the leadership capacity, credibility and energy required to offer Adamawa a compelling alternative in 2027.”

The Adamawa State Chairman of the APM, Badejo Bello, also described Haske as a bridge-builder who understood the challenges and opportunities facing the state.

Bello said the party was prepared to work with its members and supporters ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

“Haske represents the kind of leadership that resonates with the aspirations of our people. His vision, record of service and commitment to inclusive development are fully aligned with the progressive direction of our party,” he said.
