Actress Rita Edochie dismisses claims she denied online posts against Judy Austin amid N1bn lawsuit

Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has strongly dismissed reports claiming she denied making social media posts targeting her junior colleague, Judy Austin, in an ongoing legal battle.

 The clarification follows allegations made by legal practitioner Emeka Ugwuonye, who claimed that Rita denied authoring the online posts in her formal response filed before the Abuja High Court.

 Countering the narrative, Rita maintained that the lawyer’s claims do not represent her position, questioning how such conclusions could be drawn when she has yet to formally appear in court. She stood firmly by her previous commentary regarding the highly publicized marital dispute involving her husband’s nephew Yul Edochie, his estranged wife May, and second wife, Judy Austin, asserting that all her posts were true.

The legal confrontation stems from a ₦1 billion defamation and cyberbullying lawsuit filed by Austin against Edochie at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja. Alongside the ₦1 billion demand in general damages, Austin is asking the court to compel the veteran actress to publish a full, unreserved retraction and public apology in at least two widely circulated national newspapers and across all her social media platforms.

Furthermore, the suit demands the immediate removal of all alleged defamatory statements from online platforms and requires Edochie to pay ₦50 million to cover the total costs of prosecuting the suit. The formal court hearing for the high-profile case is scheduled to commence on September 29.
