ABSU Creates New Training Directorate, Names Ex-Registrar Pioneer Director
Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) has created a new Directorate of Training and appointed its immediate past Registrar, Acho Elendu, as its pioneer Director.
The development was disclosed by the university on Wednesday, following its 288th Regular Senate Meeting, according to a statement issued by the ABSU Media Unit.
The statement said the creation of the Directorate followed a proposal by the Vice-Chancellor, Ndukwe J, which was considered and approved by the university’s Governing Council, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Agwu U.
According to the university, the new Directorate is expected to strengthen continuous learning, professional development and capacity building within the university and the wider society.
Elendu was subsequently appointed as the pioneer Director of the new Directorate.
However, ABSU has yet to disclose details of the specific training programmes to be offered, when the Directorate will commence operations, its proposed fee structure or the categories of people expected to benefit from its programmes.
The development also raises questions about how the new Directorate will operate alongside the university’s existing Institute for Continuing Education, which is already listed among ABSU’s institutional units.
The Institute for Continuing Education was also among the university units for which directors were appointed for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Elendu’s appointment comes shortly after the end of his tenure as Registrar. He was formally celebrated by the university community at a valedictory event in September.
The university has not yet publicly provided further operational details about the new Directorate, including its structure, programmes and relationship with existing continuing-education structures
